Out of Character: Technical Difficulties

For those who have been following my Solo Experience I wanted to write this out to let you know that I’m having some technical difficulties. My Chromebook battery crapped out on me. And writing out blogs on my phone is just a little too difficult for me to handle. Also, it oddly induces my anxiety to attempt to write any posts on my phone.  Hopefully soon I get a new Chromebook or some other way of writing my posts.

Forgetting the Character

During these little sessions I have been having with Fitzhugh Carvolo I felt like I have neglected the CHARACTER of Fitzhugh. Currently it feels like he has just been numbers rather than the character I rolled up here .  Who is Fitzhugh? From the character information that I rolled up we know that Fitzhugh is a handsome man with freckles. Though, he wears battle-torn clothes. Is this to hide among people in the city? Or maybe he just couldn't afford nicer clothes. His speech is very monotone which can make it difficult to determine his mood such as whether or not he is joking or being serious. His mind and his way of thinking tends to be that of a schemer. This could probably be because of his background of being a housebreaker.  There are questions we could ask about this character. Was he a housebreaker before he was in the Withered Shrimp clan or was he trained to become a housebreak after joining the clan? Has he always been poor or was he only poor in the state that we fi...

The Intoxicating Dance

Image
In the last post Fitzhugh managed to escape from the locked room within The Wicked Cinnabar with the help from an unexpected ally. And with some help from the slime sentinel, Fitzhugh defeated the hermit and Minerva the blacksmith before they finished their intoxicating dance. Is there a Crowd of People Watching? This is the first question I asked the oracle to set up the scene. No, but ... it appears there was but they probably assumed it was just two drunk people dancing for no real reason. Is the hermit and Minerva drunk enough to have a disadvantage? No . Do our heroes have a surprise round? This question I asked with an advantage giving that the villains were focused on their task and that they thought Fitzhugh was still locked up. And of course, they would have no reason to think there was a creature like the slime sentinel on Fitzhugh's side. The result to the question was: Yes, and ... they also have advantage on their first attack. "Good. She didn't even go throu...

An Unexpected Ally

In the last post Fitzhugh got himself into some trouble with Minerva, the blacksmith of The Wicked Cinnabar. Now we will see what comes next for Fitzhugh and how unlucky and how very lucky the dice were for him. Is the Intoxicating Dance Taking Place? This is the first question I ask the oracle to kick things off. I ask this question with an advantage because I would assume Fitzhugh was warning Minerva shortly before this event was happening. And the result was: Yes, but ...... after taking some time I decided that it was Yes, but it is almost complete. Now is there a way for Fitzhugh to get out of this room? Looking at his character sheet and equipment I ask the oracle: Does Fitzhugh still have his vial of acid in his boot? I ask this question without an advantage so just a straight two six-sided die result for: Yes, but .....it isn't what it seems. Trapped in a Room Things are looking up for Fitzhugh now that he has this vial of acid. He is going to make a Danger Dex Roll to app...

Complications at The Wicked Cinnabar

In the last post we explored a little world building and established the first mission for Fitzhugh. Now we will explore a little more about this mission and a little more about Fitzhugh. How Does Fitzhugh Know About the Hermit? I asked this question first then decided that maybe Fitzhugh works for or is a part of a faction. I rolled on the Faction table and got: Outlander Clan And this told me that Fitzhugh is not from Vinelion. He is an outsider from another part of the world. We will explore this at a later session....if we are lucky. I then needed a name for the clan. Going through the tables I decided to combine the Wilderness Region Trait and Monster Base tables. With the first table I got Withered  then for the monster base: 1-2 Aerial, 3-4 Terrestrial and 5-6 Aquatic. I ended up with Aquatic then....the worst thing I could have rolled on this table.... Shrimp . The clan is called: Withered Shrimp ????? What kind of name is that? Anyways, I kept it. Maybe a meaning will com...

Where is Fitzhugh Carvolo?

Image
In the last post I went over the creation of our Maze Rat, Fitzhugh Carvolo. Now that we have our adventurer we need to discover how we start Fitzhugh's adventure. This is when asking questions and using (and manipulating) the tables within the rules of Maze Rats and Maze Rat come into play. Where is Fitzhugh? Rolling a single six-sided die I determine where this adventure starts. A result of 1-2 The City, 3-4 The Wild and 5-6 The Maze. The result is The City. But what is the name of The City? I decided I was going to roll on two separate tables and combine the result. But I had to skim through some of the tables to know which two I wanted to choose. I decided on the Physical Element and Inn Noun tables. The sum result was: Vinelion I also wanted to determine what the theme of the city is and what is the surrounding wilderness region. After rolling on those individual tables we now have: City : Vinelion Theme : Spices Region : Mesa So we now have a city that runs on producing/sell...

Fitzhugh Carvolo the Maze Rat

Image
Welcome to the first (and I really hope) of many posts in my adventures in Solo RPG. The adventures of Fitzhugh Carvolo will be played with using the game system, Maze Rats by Ben Milton. I am also using the solo supplement, Maze Rat by Peter Rudin-Burgess. Character Creation Character Stats : Rolling a single six-sided die I determined that my character would have +0 in Strength, +2 in Dexterity and +1 in Will. Items : Rolling two six-sided dice six times I determined that my character had these items: Vial of Poison, Horn, Vial of Acid, Rope (50ft), Hand Drill and Hacksaw. With those stats and items I had in my head that this character would probably be more of an assassin/thief type of character. But who knows how this character will discover themselves. Gear : You start with Light Armor, Shield and Two Weapons of your choice. I house-rule that if you don't want any of the starting gear you can choose or roll on the item table. I decided the character would have Light Armor, S...
