An Unexpected Ally

In the last post Fitzhugh got himself into some trouble with Minerva, the blacksmith of The Wicked Cinnabar. Now we will see what comes next for Fitzhugh and how unlucky and how very lucky the dice were for him.

Is the Intoxicating Dance Taking Place?
This is the first question I ask the oracle to kick things off. I ask this question with an advantage because I would assume Fitzhugh was warning Minerva shortly before this event was happening. And the result was: Yes, but...... after taking some time I decided that it was Yes, but it is almost complete.
Now is there a way for Fitzhugh to get out of this room? Looking at his character sheet and equipment I ask the oracle: Does Fitzhugh still have his vial of acid in his boot? I ask this question without an advantage so just a straight two six-sided die result for: Yes, but.....it isn't what it seems.

Trapped in a Room
Things are looking up for Fitzhugh now that he has this vial of acid. He is going to make a Danger Dex Roll to apply the acid to destroy the lock or some other part of the door to break it free. 2d6+2 vs 10 and with a result of 7 this is a failure. But what does it look like? We already established that the vial of acid isn't what it seems. At first I rolled on the Mutations table and it just didn't fit. Then I thought I would roll on the Potions table but that also didn't work. I decided on just rolling up on the Magic tables. And the result was: Slime Sentinel

An Unexpected Ally
So Fitzhugh poured the vial of acid on the door and it appeared to just drip and pour onto the floor without burning anything. But the liquid started to move into a single pile and began to grow into a large slime-like humanoid. I then had to decide what the stats were for this creature. I created a d6 table that I would roll on to randomly generate the stats for the Slime Sentinel. The result was:
Slime Sentinel
HP: d6 (4)   Armor: 7
Attack Bonus: +4   STR: +3
DEX: +4   WIL: +0
Bash (1 hand)
Spell:
 Acid Blast

Of course Fitzhugh would be terrified at this point. Locked in a room alone with this creature that he accidentally made. So an NPC Reaction roll must be made: 4 - Friendly
Friendly!? I was shocked too. I was sure this was going to be the end of Fitzhugh. The Slime Sentinel recognized that the two of them were locked in a room together. It is going to make a Danger STR Roll to bash down the door: 2d6+3 with a result of 10 being a success. The door has been bashed down and Fitzhugh is free! But I ask the oracle one last question in this session...

Will the Slime Sentinel Stay with Fitzhugh?
The 2d6 result was: 12. Yes, and... it will be Fitzhugh's guardian.

What is next for Fitzhugh and his new ally, Slime Sentinel? I honestly believed this was the end of Fitzhugh but this solo gaming has been full of surprises for sure!

    1. Glad you like it! And feel free to use. I first started starting up the creature myself but I thought it would be more fair to just have it randomly generated so I don’t feel like I’m being too “easy” on Fitzhugh.

  2. Just realized I might have a distant relation of Fitzhugh in my game I just started, a Father Carvolo who makes a colorful entrance.

Story so far is basically my PC Red is deep in a forest about to raid a bandit hideout to recover Red's blackmail diary which the bandits stole and then from behind enters Incompetent leadership of the Priest on a crusade against the bandits, Red is caught in the crossfire. Due to Father Carvolo's leadership skills he has only brought choir boys and new disciples who are not train or see any combat.......tune in next time to see if turns grim and bloody affair or a bumbling comedy of errors

    1. This is so awesome! Do you happen to have a name of the forest your adventure is taking place in? Cause I now want to add this to my world and these events to the lore. If that’s cool with you.

    2. Yes feel free to add this to your lore. While I have not given it a proper name I did roll up a description of dense and shrouded, north of town. No name on the town yet, just a general idea that it's big enough to support a person versus in Blackmail.

I have spent a lot of time in the first session figuring out a flow and which tables to use I did not get as much story as I would have liked.
